Why MOT Advisories Are Worth Taking Seriously

Every MOT that passes with advisories comes with a list of things the tester noticed but which were not serious enough to fail the car on the day. It is tempting to file that list away and forget about it until next year. An advisory is really an early warning, though, and how urgently you act on it depends entirely on what it actually says.

Tyres nearing the legal tread limit, brake pads getting thin, or a slow coolant weep are the advisories worth booking in for soon rather than waiting. Left alone they tend to get worse gradually and then fail suddenly, usually at the least convenient moment possible.

Cosmetic items, such as light corrosion on a bracket or a worn wiper blade, are lower priority but still worth mentioning to us next time you are in, so we can keep an eye on them.

If you are ever unsure what an advisory actually means for your car, bring the certificate in or read it out over the phone. We will tell you honestly whether it is something to deal with now, something to watch, or nothing to worry about at all. That is the whole point of having an independent garage you can trust.

See the work before you book it

We post the jobs as they happen — what came in, what was actually wrong, and what it took to put right. It is the easiest way to see how we work before you trust us with your car.
