Technician carrying out an MOT inspection on a car raised on a workshop ramp

Prompt: Photorealistic wide shot of a car raised on a two-post hydraulic lift in a clean, bright independent UK garage. A technician in dark workwear examines the underside with an inspection lamp. Neutral daylight, shallow depth of field, muted industrial palette with a hint of warm yellow from overhead lighting. No visible branding or text.

Do you need this?

Signs it's worth booking in

Tick anything that sounds like your car. There are no wrong answers, and nothing gets sent anywhere. It simply gives us somewhere sensible to start when you ring.

Recognise any of these?

Tick whatever sounds like your car, or skip the ticking and just ring us. Describe the noise, the feeling, the warning light, and we will tell you straight whether it needs looking at or whether it can wait.

What's covered

Everything included

  • Brake efficiency, balance and condition are tested across the whole system. Brakes are the single most common MOT failure point, so this is where the test starts.

  • Steering response, play and the condition of suspension components are all checked, because they decide how the car holds the road and how quickly it can stop.

  • Headlights, indicators, brake lights, reflectors and their aim are checked. A blown bulb is one of the easiest and cheapest failures to avoid.

  • Tread depth, condition and wheel integrity are assessed against the 1.6mm legal minimum across the central three-quarters of the tread.

  • Every belt is checked for condition, operation and correct locking under load, along with the security of its mountings.

  • Exhaust gas is analysed against the legal limits for your vehicle, keeping harmful pollutants down and confirming the engine is running correctly.

  • The vehicle structure is inspected for corrosion or damage in prescribed areas, along with anything that presents a hazard to other road users.

How we do it

What actually happens

No surprises and no jargon. If we find something else while the car is with us, you get a phone call and a price before a spanner goes near it.

  1. Evaluating the safety systems that reduce the risk of accidents and injury to occupants and other road users

  2. Examining exhaust emissions to reduce harmful pollutants and keep the vehicle within environmental standards

  3. Confirming legal compliance, because driving without a valid MOT can mean fines, penalties and an invalid insurance policy

  4. Flagging developing faults early, so small issues are caught before they become significant repairs

  5. Providing a valid certificate that supports resale confidence when buying or selling a used vehicle

Questions

MOT, answered

It is illegal on public roads, with one exception: driving to a pre-booked MOT appointment. You risk a fine and penalty points, and your insurer may treat the policy as invalid. That last part is usually the far more expensive problem.

A fail means the vehicle doesn't meet the legal minimum and can't be driven until it's fixed. An advisory is something wearing out that will likely need attention before your next test. We'll always tell you which is which, and what can safely wait.

Yes. We carry out MOT repairs in-house across brakes, steering, suspension, lighting, tyres and exhaust, so you don't need to move the vehicle to a second garage.

Give us a call and we'll give you a realistic time based on the day's schedule. If repair work is needed we'll always contact you with a price before doing anything.
