In plain English
Diagnosing and repairing faults inside the engine itself, from a slow oil leak to a head gasket, always starting with proper testing rather than guesswork.
From an oil leak to a rebuild, engine work is where getting the diagnosis right matters most. A misdiagnosed engine fault is the most expensive mistake a garage can make, so we test before we quote.
Booking
Pre-booking required. Engine diagnosis and repair need a bay booked for the time the work actually takes, rather than being squeezed between other jobs.
Engine bay open for inspection during an engine repair
Prompt: Photorealistic wide shot of an open engine bay on a car in a workshop, technician's torso and hands visible reaching in with a tool, inspection lamp casting warm light across the block. Cool ambient workshop light behind. Documentary and honest, no branding.

Tick anything that sounds like your car. There are no wrong answers, and nothing gets sent anywhere. It simply gives us somewhere sensible to start when you ring.
What's covered
Everything included
Diagnosed with compression and block testing before any work starts, then repaired alongside the cooling components already stressed by the overheating.
The actual source, whether that is seals, gaskets or the sump, is identified and properly repaired rather than topped up and monitored.
A different system to the timing belt: metal rather than rubber, usually longer-lived, but still capable of stretching or failing and diagnosed on its own merits.
Worn mounts cause vibration and knocking under load or acceleration, and replacing them restores smooth, quiet running.
Cylinder, piston and valve work is only recommended after a proper compression test confirms where the fault actually lies.
Loss of power, unusual noise or excess smoke from a turbocharged engine is diagnosed and the turbo repaired or replaced as needed.
Once diagnostics has identified the cause behind an engine warning light, the actual repair happens here. Not just a code clear.
How we do it
What actually happens
No surprises and no jargon. If we find something else while the car is with us, you get a phone call and a price before a spanner goes near it.
Running compression and leak-down tests before recommending any major engine work, so the diagnosis is evidence-based
Repairing the actual source of an oil leak rather than just topping up and hoping
Replacing head gaskets and cooling components together where overheating has already stressed the system
Sourcing quality parts matched to your engine, not the cheapest generic fit
Giving you a written price for major work before anything is stripped down, so there are no surprises
Questions
Engine Repairs, answered
Overheating and white smoke have several possible causes. We run a proper diagnostic first: compression testing, a chemical block test for exhaust gas in the coolant, and a visual inspection. Only then will we tell you it is a head gasket, because that is a significant job and you deserve certainty before committing to it.
Not always urgent, but never worth ignoring. A slow seep can often wait for a scheduled repair; a leak dripping onto a hot exhaust or dropping the oil level fast is a genuine risk and should be looked at immediately.
Different systems entirely, even though they do a similar job. A timing belt is rubber and gets replaced on a fixed schedule, which our Timing Belt page covers. A timing chain is metal and generally lasts the life of the engine, but it can still stretch or fail, and it is not covered by scheduled belt replacement.
Proper engine diagnosis and repair needs a bay and a technician's uninterrupted time. Testing, stripping down and rebuilding correctly is not something we can safely squeeze between quick jobs, so we schedule it in advance.
