In plain English
An independent, thorough look at a vehicle before you buy it, before a big trip, or simply for peace of mind. Entirely separate from the statutory MOT.
An independent, no obligation health check for a car you are about to buy, a van going back to a leasing company, or your own vehicle before a long trip. This is not the statutory MOT. It is a closer look on top of it.
Booking
Pre-booking required. Inspections take a dedicated slot so we can work through the full checklist properly rather than rushing it.
Technician carrying out a multi-point vehicle inspection with a clipboard
Prompt: Photorealistic shot of a technician crouched beside a car on a workshop ramp, clipboard in one hand, other hand inspecting a wheel arch, checklist paper visible but text illegible. Bright, clean independent garage, neutral daylight. Documentary and trustworthy, no branding.
Do you need this?
Signs it's worth booking in
Tick anything that sounds like your car. There are no wrong answers, and nothing gets sent anywhere. It simply gives us somewhere sensible to start when you ring.
What's covered
Everything included
An independent check before you commit to buying a used car or van. It is the best money you will spend in the entire buying process.
Brakes, tyres, fluids, suspension, battery and lights checked against a fixed list, so nothing gets missed because we were only asked to 'have a look'.
An inspection ahead of handing a vehicle back, so you know what condition it's actually in before the leasing company tells you.
A once-over before a long trip or driving abroad, catching anything that's likely to become a problem a long way from home.
A real document you can show a seller, query with a dealer, or simply keep. Not a verbal thumbs up or down.
How we do it
What actually happens
No surprises and no jargon. If we find something else while the car is with us, you get a phone call and a price before a spanner goes near it.
Working through a fixed checklist so nothing gets missed because we were only asked to 'have a quick look'
Being honest about what we find, including telling you not to buy a car, which we would far rather say than watch you regret it
Photographing anything of concern so you have evidence to negotiate on or query with a seller
Checking service history against the odometer and physical wear, which is how a clocked or badly maintained car gets caught
Handing over a written summary, not just a verbal thumbs up or down
Questions
Inspections, answered
An MOT is a legal minimum safety and emissions test with a narrow, fixed checklist. An inspection goes further. It covers mechanical condition, wear on parts that are not MOT tested items, and an honest opinion on whether the vehicle is actually a good buy, not merely whether it is legally roadworthy.
Yes, and that is the most common reason people book this. Bring the vehicle to us, or arrange for the seller to, before money changes hands. It is far easier to walk away from a bad car than to fix one you already own.
A written summary of what we found, with photos of anything worth flagging. That is genuine evidence you can use to negotiate the price, put specific questions to the seller, or simply decide not to proceed.
We check for the common tell tale signs: mismatched panel gaps or paint, wear that does not match the stated mileage, and gaps in the service history. We will flag anything that does not add up. We cannot guarantee a full history in every case, but we will tell you honestly what we see.
